Pershore Ghost Story No. 1

Recently members of the Heritage Society were manning a stall at a Family History Fair being held in Evesham, when they were approached by a lady who’d worked as a dental nurse for Maurice Banbury at Lincoln House in Pershore High Street. At that time, around 1975, they would hold a late surgery on a Tuesday evening.

On one such evening, as they were clearing up, this lady heard a noise of horses and what sounded like a cart coming up the High Street towards Worcester. She mentioned this to Mr Banbury, the dental surgeon, who took her to look out of the window, which she did but could see nothing. He later told her he had, on more than one occasion, seen the front part of a coach and a coachman with a whip leading horses, the coach leaving the archway of the Angel Inn and travelling towards Worcester.

As they were chatting, another lady joined them saying she too had heard the sound of horses at the same spot, but again had seen nothing. In her case, she’d been in the same area, but on the opposite side of the street, being on an errand for her mother. Further conversation revealed that both events had occurred during the 1970’s and had taken place in the evening dusk at around the same time of night.

Could this be a glimpse into the past?  Has anyone else been aware of unexplained happenings in the town? We’d love to hear from you. There will be another ghostly story on our next monthly web update!
